A small child smacking a rock off another childs head, with canned laughter over the top...
Grazes first gig last night, went pretty well. Pretty glad we played a cover, got people singing along and such, I'd like to think it's a good measure of how we were received. I guess it's abit of a risk to cover a band that are loved on the Sheffield Hardcore scene, since their demise. It's a risk because if our own songs weren't very good, we'd be accused of "massacring" a liked song. People we're nodding along and stuff as our first build up broke into a heavier riff with vocals, so hopefully we're onto something if we can improve our set with new songs. Personally I just wanna get some more inivative and aggro parts in there, and develop abit of stage presence.
The gig itself would have been rad to go to, Hordes from Durham were pretty sweet, one of those bands that recordings don't do them justice. Dark, almost melodic yet discorded hardcore, it worked well in my opinion. Fast point, for the second time now, had this aura around them; they just pull off not caring, but not being arrogant, therefore being cool far too well. Requesting for all the lights, apart from the fairy lights to the side of the stage to be turned off, before rattling out a set of high-energy hardcore punk. Deal With It aren't really my thing (not that I have a "thing" with all the hardcore - I get into being through my mate from uni haha). I find them abit slidey-power chord repetitive on first listen, that is a huge discredit to them in a way, because they're obviously very good at what they do. Live I was very impressed.
The hardcore scene has such a family vibe; the shouts from gang vocals, the singer being literally part of the crowd, and the fact people are there for the music and to see people they know from going to gigs and stuff, rather than just being there to be part of a scene.
Definitely happy to make this band a priority. Listening to a fair bit of Have Heart's The Things We Carry, so good. If you haven't heard it, download it here.
