What will the year 2009 be remembered for? The Recession, The Election of Obama, or MP scandals? Whichever may be a highlight for the press, I can’t see it being an easy year to portray in a positive light, but I’ll hold it close to my heart. A real highlight was definitely Benicassim festival, with some of the best lads. From drinking about 2 or 3 bottles of wine and too much lemon-cello, sangria, then more wine with Elmo, Chris and John the night before Benicassim in Barcelona, to the night of the bad as fuck winds, causing two of our tents to fuck off and leave me and Chris squatting in a nearby disused tent; it was all just a huge, huge experience that I will never forget.
A major highlight of the year, still not sure if it is positive or negative, but saturday the 19th of September, the day I moved to Sheffield, was one of the biggest days of my life to date. Your bedroom is a huge representation of your character, it holds memorys, belongings, clothes and so on - to see it completely empty and to know you are so in limbo is so strange. I bought Flood Of Red's debut the day before, didn't give it a proper listen till the journey down to Sheffield, which is why it is an album I hold so close to my heart now. Probably not the best idea I've had; it didn't exactly make moving out seem like something that was going to be great - Leaving Everything Behind being the album title.
I've stolen this idea off Lew, just reading his blog, but I decided it was epic, so here's my top ten releases of 2009;
10: Tonight: Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
9: This Will Be The Death Of Us... - Set Your Goals
8: The Blueprint 3 - Jay-Z
7: Humbug - Arctic Monkeys
6: Lungs - Florence & The Machine
5: Daisy - Brand New
4: Brave Enough To Fail EP - More Than Life
3: I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose - Bombay Bicycle Club
2: Leaving Everything Behind - Flood Of Red
1: Wall Of Arms - The Maccabees
There's definately more I could have put in and stuff - I'm just amazed at the amount of indie in it!
